The Artist
I never picked up a camera with the intention of becoming a photographer. I began because my father gave me his old Canon FT, already worn from the hiking trips he had taken it on, and because I loved being in wild places. Photography became my way of holding on to those places and the feeling of being in them. Growing up, my parents often took us hiking and camping, and that experience never left me. It became part of my life and, over time, my camera became a way of telling the story of the landscapes I have seen and the moments I want to remember.
Finding a photograph worth keeping is genuinely difficult. So many things have to come together at once: the subject, the weather, the light, and the composition. Capturing them at the right moment is challenging, and I often fail to make the image I hoped for. Most of what I shoot is rejected and never seen by anyone. The photographs that make it into a collection are the ones that still feel strong months or even years later.
The feeling I am always trying to carry through the work is the experience of standing in a landscape that is completely indifferent to you, yet finding it overwhelmingly beautiful anyway. Nature has a way of putting things into perspective, and I want these photographs to bring that sense of scale, stillness, and wonder into people's homes.
Every print is produced by Silvertone International in Johannesburg, one of South Africa's best fine art print studios, using archival photographic media made to last a lifetime. Properly framed and hung, a print placed in your home today should look the same in a hundred years. That standard matters to me because these images are my life's work.
Each work is released as a limited edition: a small run that is never reprinted once it closes. I believe a photograph should be rare if it is going to mean something. When you own one of these prints, you own a specific moment that will never be repeated.
